DIVEMASTER / INSTRUCTOR
There is probably no other term in diving with a more diverse meaning than Divemaster. Traditionally, this term has been used to denote a supervisory position of the diving activity. But aboard Nekton vessels, some of the functions that the Divemaster is expected to fulfill seem well beyond the realm of what may be considered a diving activity. As Divemaster, among the varied list of roles you will fulfill include: acting as an in-water tour guide, a supervisor, an instructional assistant, an oceanographer, an marine life enthusiast, a repair technician, a counselor, a public-relations expert, a seaman/seawoman, and a buddy.
As an instructor your responsibility is to provide daily scuba instruction in both formal classes as well as in informal situations. Rotation of the formal instruction position will depend upon the number of students on a given cruise and the type of scuba course to be instructed. All crew members will share in the benefits brought about by various instruction, regardless of who presents the formal scuba course.
