ENGINEERS

The engineer is responsible for maintaining the ship's maintenance log and schedule. The log should include maintenance records for filters (water makers, oil filters, intake filters, dive compressor filters) and all fluids including oil, gasoline for outboards, diesel fuel, monitoring ballast tanks, compressors, hydraulic oils and fluids.

Engine Log
The engine log should be kept in terms of hours of operation, and is valuable in timing oil changes and other preventive maintenance. Record all routine maintenance and other significant events such as any troubles or repairs. If an engine log records the addition of crankcase oil, for instance, consumption can be accurately computed. Any increase in the use of oil may be a valuable warning of engine troubles. Likewise, fuel consumption can be periodically figured in terms of engine hours, and any change noted. The engine maintenance log should cover all routine adjustments and inspections and should ensure that all necessary tasks are carried out on a regular basis.
