NITROX

Nekton uses reliable RIX Industries brand oil-free compressors to safely pump Nitrox. Yes, this equipment cost us considerably more than a standard oil-lubricated compressor, but it assures that the air fills you get aboard the Nekton's Liveaboards are the cleanest you will find and the safest way to go aboard a live-aboard.

Our system is capable of providing Nitrox for up to 12 divers per week on the Nekton Pilot and 15 divers per week on the Nekton Rorqual. Nekton's standard fill is to 29% with a guarantee of 26%. Nekton has adapted the 29% standard in order to maintain 1.4 PPO considered safe for repetitive, recreational diving to a maximum operating depth of 130 feet. If you receive a fill less than 26%, that tank will be free or your weekly charge will be prorated to reflect the free tank.

While unlikely, if we are unable to provide Nitrox due to mechanical reasons, we will refund to you any prepaid money for the Nitrox, but NOT any other monies including cruise fares, air fares, taxes, etc. as a result of not being able to provide Nitrox.

  • Nitrox fills are available for $15 per tank, or $195 for the entire cruise week.
  • If you would like to dive Nitrox, you MUST request Nitrox at the time you book your cruise reservation, and receive confirmation from Nekton.
  • Nitrox is available on a "first come-first pay" basis each week.
What is Nitrox Anyway?

Nitrox

Nitrox is actually any combination of nitrogen and oxygen. Regular breathing air is comprised of approximately 21% Oxygen and 79% Nitrogen. Nitrox mixtures with percentages of oxygen greater than 21% are called Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx). The most commonly used EANx mixture is EAN 29 (29% Oxygen and 71% Nitrogen). Special user friendly decompression tables for these EANx mixes are available from NAUI and TDI. A prudent nitrox diver would also take advantage of a programmable nitrox computer to provide them with the added benefit of multi-level nitrox diving.

Recreational diving agencies, like PADI and NAUI fully recognize and sanction Nitrox as a safe alternate breathing gas for diving.
