Cay Lobos Bahamas
Located just 11 miles (18 km) northeast of Cuba, Cay Lobos is as close to Cuba as
an American can legally get without special permits. Enjoy a scenic view of the
Cuban coast while diving the spectacular rolling walls of the vast Labanderas Reef.
Almost 300 cruising miles southeast of Florida, a voyage to Cay Lobos is the vacation
of a lifetime going where no diver has gone before. Because of the distances covered
the night dive deck will only be open once midweek and on Friday night at the end
of the week.
While each Cay Lobos cruise may vary due to weather and conditions, the outline
below will give you a good feel for the exciting week in store for you!
Saturday Embarkation begins in Fort
Lauderdale at 7:00 p.m. The Captain's welcome aboard briefing begins at 8:00 p.m.
After your arrival during the day into Fort Lauderdale take a Water Taxi out to
one of Fort Lauderdale's many fine restaurants for an enjoyable dinner ashore. Vessel
departs Fort Lauderdale for Cat Cay at around 9:00 p.m. Note: Port Everglades' tight
security restrictions require that our guests be accompanied to the boat by our
designated badged ground agents.
Sunday Cat Cay
-- Clear Bahamian customs in Cat Cay. Dive South Tuna Alley and Victory Reef. Upon
completion of the afternoon dives we will set sail for Medio Reef 120 miles south.
Monday Medio Reef
-- Dive and snorkel sites on Medio Reef on the western edge of the immense Great
Bahama Bank. Enjoy ancient staghorn coral grottos, colorful spur and groove formations
and a giant sea mount. One site proved to be a real challenge at which to set a
mooring but the mooring crew was so impressed by the teaming fish life that they
switched to a different type of mooring. In the end, the site was so full of life
that even though the crew got a mooring in they still felt that “Nature Prevails”,
hence the site name. At dinner time, we'll set our course for Cay Lobos.
Tuesday Cay Lobos
& Labanderas Reef! -- Dive the spectacular rolling walls of Labanderas
Reef. Sites range from deeper and steeper in the west to shallow and hallow in the
east. Expect morning dives to be on walls with depths from 60' to 70' on top and
afternoon dives starting at 40' to 50'. Enjoy a midweek night dive in the eastern
shallows of Labanderas Reef.
Wednesday Cay Lobos
& Labanderas Reef! -- Continue exploring this awesome virgin reef
on sites with names like First Look, Second Look, Sponge Bob, El Rey de Leon (Lion
King), Two Scoops and Rat Race.
Thursday Anguilla
Cay -- Dive the spectacular mysterious blue hole “Lady’s Secret” of Anguilla
Caye on the southeast tip of the Cay Sal Bank. This blue hole features a giant offshoot
called “Tunnel of Love” piercing vertically upward and to the side of the hole all
the way to the surface. Afternoon snorkeling and exploring at Anguilla Cay, "The
Island Time Forgot". Late afternoon departure for Bimini.
Friday Morning dives at Tuna Alley.
In the afternoon, explore a shallow reef near Bimini before an optional excursion
ashore which would no doubt include "refreshments" and Calypso music at some of
the local establishments. Bimini was made famous by American author "Papa" Ernest
Hemingway and is the island that prompted his famous novel "Islands in the Stream".
If you still have not had your fill of scuba adventures continue diving throughout
the afternoon and even a Friday night dive to permanently set that vacation smile
on your face.
Saturday You'll arrive back in Fort
Lauderdale at 8:00 a.m. After clearing U.S. customs and immigrations, our vans will
transport you to the Fort Lauderdale International Airport or your local hotel.
Please schedule flights after noon.
